GPS Maps Navigation is a mobile application for Android that leverages an Internet connection and GPS navigation system to offer turn-by-turn voice-guided directions to a selected destination.

The app necessitates an Internet data connection (e.g., 3G, 4G, 5G, WiFi, etc.) and typically relies on a GPS satellite connection to pinpoint its location.

Users can input a destination in the application, which will then map out a route. The application tracks the user's advancement along the route and issues guidance for each turn.

Search

The application not only allows users to search by address or street name but also by name. For instance, it can guide users to a nearby restaurant by recognizing the restaurant's name. Additionally, the app can interpret phrases like "a place with burgers" to suggest relevant nearby destinations. Users can also opt for voice input instead of manual typing.

Multiple Views

• Traffic: The app presents a traffic congestion map indicating different traffic conditions along a route through color-coded markers. Data sources include local road services like highway cameras and information from other Android devices accessing Maps for Mobile.
• Satellite: Users are provided with a bird’s eye view of a route using satellite imagery.
• Street: The Street View function showcases a first-person perspective of a route that dynamically changes as the user progresses.

Car Dock Mode

This feature allows users to mount their Android device in their vehicle using a specialized car dock. Once mounted, the app enters this mode for convenient access to navigation features at an arm's length.

Walking and Transit

The app offers voice-guided navigation for walking trips and previously for transit directions. In its current version, transit navigation is unavailable; instead, users receive a list of directions. Transit directions are accessible in 400 cities worldwide.

Offline Guidance

After searching for a destination, the map caches along the planned route. Users can also download maps for specific areas and store them on their devices - useful for scenarios with high roaming charges or slow connection speeds. While an Internet connection is needed to search for routes unless an offline map is downloaded, once a route is established, an Internet connection becomes unnecessary as the route is temporarily stored on the device unless an offline map is saved to the device's storage.
